The 'Trigger' to Helping Our Senior Horse Eat

My husband’s 19-year-old roping horse Trigger is quite a special horse. He’ll do anything and everything for our family. We have a 3-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, and Trigger loves them both. My son can lead Trigger around at any speed, in any direction, and he’ll follow like a puppy dog. My husband can rope steers on Trigger, then pick up both kids and ride triple together.

I've used Trigger to help start colts that have been more on the wild side, and he lets them bump and run into him, all while keeping his cool. I also use Trigger for a lesson horse, and he always takes care of his rider, even when they catch a rope under his tail.

Last year, however, we became worried when Trigger began not eating well. He only picked at his food throughout the day and was dropping weight. I hated seeing him unhappy to eat and getting skinnier, despite us giving him plenty of good quality grass and alfalfa hay as well as a senior feed supplement.

A couple of years previous to this incident with Trigger I had used Redmond Daily Gold on a client's horse that had ulcers. I remembered how well the product worked as well as how highly my vet had recommended it.

Once we put Trigger on Daily Gold, he immediately started finishing his meals and began putting weight back on. When Trigger went from never finishing a meal and having hay left over from breakfast at dinnertime, to finishing all of his hay within one to two hours, I knew it was working!

We went through a bag of Daily Gold, and Trigger was so much happier and healthier. He stayed that way for quite a while, but now, almost a year later, we've noticed him dropping weight again. I immediately bought a 25-pound tub of Daily Gold and will keep Trigger on it as long as he needs!
